Mercury/Gemini/Apollo Astronaut Naval Capt. Wally Schirra (Ret.) Dies at 84
Details at Space.com
From Wikipedia:
"Walter Marty Schirra, Jr. (March 12, 1923 – May 3, 2007) was one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts chosen for the Project Mercury, America's first effort to put men in space. He was the only man to fly in all of America's first three space programs (Mercury, Gemini and Apollo). He logged a total of 295 hours and 15 minutes in space."
I have had the distinct privilege of meeting Capt. Schirra at a book signing in Del Mar, California where he autographed my copy of his book "Schirra's Space".
In honor of his service to our Nation, any commissions from the sale of his book through my Amazon.com affiliate link will be donated to the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society in Capt. Schirra's name.
I had always hoped that Capt. Schirra, who is an Eagle Scout, would be able to speak at my Son's Eagle Scout Court of Honor.
